Gordon Lightfoot Sings The Edmund Fitzgerald
33" x 36" oil on paper, 2008

Oil portrait of Gordon Lightfoot playing an acoustic guitar and in the background is the Edmund Fitzgerald sailing on lake Superior with a gloomy and stormy dark sky. This is a derivative painting from the album cover, "A Painter Passing Through."
Photographer: I'm still trying to find out.

All that remains is the faces and the names of the wives and the sons and the daughters. ~ Gordon Lightfoot

I grew up in rural Ontario listening to Gordon Lightfoot, and for me his music was one of those comforting and familiar sounds that played on CKPC radio. As I grew older my tastes changed a bit, but Gordon was one of the artists that had stayed with me over the years. His poetic lyrics and beautiful guitar chords affected me more deeply in my teens, and now in my adult years I find that I listen to the words more closely and can relate to many of the songs.
I just really enjoy the moods Canadian Folk puts me in. In my life, there has been so many events, good times among friends, and during my studio painting sessions where Gordon Lightfoot has set the musical ambience.
Like so many of us who care to listen, Gordon Lightfoot has touched me and my life by his words, and his music will live on forever. And as I become a serious painter, and knowing that my eyesight won't last forever, I am determined to paint what I feel, my experiences, your experiences, and of course the good friends that I have the fortune to meet. I hope to one day soon see Gordon Lightfoot live in concert, and when I finally make that road trip to Nova Scotia, I guarentee he will be a part of the music playlist.
