Gladiolus
12" x 36 " oil on canvas, 2006

This painting was comissioned as a retirement gift. The woman who was retiring, was much loved and repected by her co-workers. They described to me that at the end of each day she used to set her glasses down on the table. We all agreed that it would be a nice touch to include her glasses set upon the table, as a symbol of a job well done, time to rest now.
The inspirationfor the gladiolus painting was from a photo I'd taken at the beautiful old Postmasters house in Ayr, Ontario. This magnificent Ontario Regency Cottage (circa 1840) is now a Bed & Breakfast, operated by Joan and Phil McLorn. Aside from the glasses, this painting literally is their dining room table! Joan and Phil are watercolour artists, and it's worth the drive to Ayr to see the showcase gallery with over 50 framed works. The McLorn Gallery.
And as it turns out, Gladiolus just happened to be the favorite flower of her late mother. It's wonderful feeling when an artist can create a painting that end's up having an extra special meaning for the buyer. Also, please excuse the small size of the sample image. Hopefully I can get in touch with the buyer and take another photograph.

Realism painting or red and pink edged gladiolus sitting in a green celtic looking vase atop a solid walnut wood table. oil painted sunlight coming through window and reflecting in the curtains and shining through eye glasses that rest on a wooden dining table.
