The Faerie wings themselves were vectored in Adobe Illustrator, and then exported into Rhino3D to make a poly mesh surface. In case you were wondering, the dragonfly wings were actually vectored from high resolution images of real dragonfly wings ...every vein. What a job that was. For another example, see "Obsessed With Fire" in the Poser Gallery.
You'll notice in some of these Bryce renders I have imported some "Poser people" to be part of the scene. Hair (and sometimes clothing) is something I usually create post-work in Photoshop. One of the aspects I love about Bryce is the atmospheric lighting, and the way the program figures out volume of objects...such as Vortigern encased inside the ruby... you can really see the refraction and distortion inside the crystal.
