Bryce

Also see Poser
I rendered most of these back in 2004, and many of the 3D objects you see in these scenes I created myself either in Bryce or with Rhino 3D. Bryce is a 3D modeling, rendering and animation program specializing in fractal landscapes.

About the Images
The Faerie wings themselves were vectored in Adobe Illustrator, and then exported into Rhino3D to make a poly mesh surface. In case you were wondering, the dragonfly wings were actually vectored from high resolution images of real dragonfly wings ...every vein. What a job that was. For another example, see "Obsessed With Fire" in the Poser Gallery.
You'll notice in some of these Bryce renders I have imported some "Poser people" to be part of the scene. Hair (and sometimes clothing) is something I usually create post-work in Photoshop. One of the aspects I love about Bryce is the atmospheric lighting, and the way the program figures out volume of objects...such as Vortigern encased inside the ruby... you can really see the refraction and distortion inside the crystal.

Bryce Animation
Temple of the North Pole (Quick Time)It is the first (and last) animation I have ever done.

Bad Faerie

• The birdbath is being over taken by a bad Faerie ...forget it birds. Look at her hands, I love the way Bryce renders the refraction in the water.

• I'd much rather have this Faerie in my birdbath. Again, nice refraction in the water.

Olwyn and Vortigern

• The story:
Olwyn fought her way through many hardships and dangers, but the battle is won.
Beleaguered and tired, she has finally reached the flooded dungeon that houses her grandfather, the great King Vortigern. He was encased in a ruby one hundred years ago by an evil wizard named Aelhaearn.
She will free him and he will take his rightful place on the throne of Machynlleigh again.
Lute faerie fairy body paint

• Rendered using Rhino3D
It shows the program interface in the background showing the polygon mesh that defines the shape of the object. I can't remember what the Elven Runes say around the sound-hole, but for a beginner it's not a bad mesh.

• This was a contest entry for the cover of Renderosity magazine. I didn't win, but the winner had created a beautiful Chinese girl with a fan, it was very nice work.
